GLCAP mobility advocate Kelly Hammond and TRIPS driver Kim Dominguez show the new bike racks installed on TRIPS Fremont Shuttle vehicles. Racks will allow riders to take their bicycles with them as they ride the shuttle.
TRIPS Fremont Shuttle riders now have the option to take their bikes with them as they ride.
Four shuttle vehicles are now equipped with bicycle racks that can hold up to two bikes each. The bicycle racks were purchased through the Great Lakes Community Action Partnership (GLCAP) Mobility Management program, funded by the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT). The bike racks can give riders easier access to shuttle stops.
“While our shuttle routes were designed to have easily accessible stops for as many people as possible in Fremont, it’s still the case that many of our shuttle riders may live a few blocks or more away from the nearest shuttle stop,” GLCAP Rural Transit Director Jacquie Wells said. “Adding bike racks to our shuttle vehicles can help those passengers travel to their nearest TRIPS stop more quickly via bicycle and take their bikes along with them while riding.”
Both the east-side and west-side TRIPS Fremont Shuttle vehicles are equipped with bike racks. The shuttle runs 8 a.m.-6 p.m. weekdays.
“We’re hoping that with warmer weather approaching, more people take advantage of the shuttle service by walking or biking to the nearest stop and riding,” Wells said.
