TRIPS & YMCA team up for GoBus in Fremont

Fremont and Sandusky County residents will have quick and easy access to Ohio’s GoBus intercity transportation service starting March 2.
Operated by the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) in partnership with Hocking Athens Perry Community Action (HAPCAP), GoBus provides low-cost intercity transportation to locations throughout Ohio. After 15 years of service, GoBus is expanding access to sites throughout northern and western Ohio, adding 26 new stops that include Dayton, Findlay, Sandusky, Toledo, as well as Fremont.
Fremont’s stop will be located at the YMCA of Sandusky County, 1000 North Street.
“The YMCA is excited to play a small part in helping connect our community with others around the state,” said BJ Duckworth, Chief Operating Officer at the YMCA of Sandusky County. “The GoBus is not what you would traditionally think of when you think about Y. However, as an organization driven by our mission to be ‘For All,’ we hold the virtue of being welcoming as a top priority. We are excited to be the welcoming face when visitors travel to our great community.”
The YMCA will offer its waiting area and restrooms to GoBus riders waiting to depart for their trips and will designate four parking spots for GoBus riders; photo ID is required to access those spaces. The YMCA of Sandusky County is also located along the route for the TRIPS Fremont Shuttle, making it a convenient access point for those in need of transportation. Passengers may utilize TRIPS to travel to the YMCA to access GoBus, then may use available public transit systems or other transportation services when arriving at their destination of travel outside of Sandusky County.
“We are happy to assist anyone who may need help with understanding how to use the GoBus service, as well as learning about transportation options in other locations that GoBus serves,” said Mindy Birkholz, Mobility Management Coordinator for Great Lakes Community Action Partnership, which operates TRIPS.
Including the addition of the new stops, GoBus operates nine total routes with stops in 64 cities and towns throughout the state. Riders travel on 56-passenger wheelchair-accessible motor coaches with free wireless internet, power outlets at every seat, onboard restrooms and other accommodations. Fares range from as low as $5 to a maximum of $40 per one-way ride (plus sales tax and service fees).
Tickets are on sale now for the new route starting March 2. Details on routes, schedules, and tickets are available by visiting ridegobus.com, calling 888-95-GOBUS, or through the GoBus app — RideGoBus.
