Meals on Wheels serves 480 seniors in 2025

The Great Lakes Community Action Partnership (GLCAP) Meals on Wheels program provided 480 seniors with daily meals in 2025.

The program supports home-delivered meals for homebound Sandusky County seniors ages 60 and over. Hot lunchtime meals are delivered Monday-Thursday, with a box lunch provided for the Friday meal.

The Sandusky County Meals on Wheels program is supported through a combination of funding from local, federal, and private sources. The Sandusky County Senior Levy funds much of the program, with additional support provided by federal Community Services Block Grant (CSBG) and Older Americans Act funding, as well as support from local United Way of Sandusky County and private donations.

“While levy funding plays a vital role in supporting Meals on Wheels, we also rely on a variety of additional funding sources to sustain the program,” GLCAP Senior Services Director Robin Richter said. “It truly takes a coordinated effort from many people to make this service possible. From kitchen staff and coordinators to drivers, volunteers, and administrative teams working behind the scenes. Together, their efforts ensure that every senior who needs Meals on Wheels can be served.”

By delivering daily meals, Meals on Wheels drivers also provide a safety check to ensure that seniors are safe.

“In addition to nutrition, our deliveries provide reassurance,” Richter said. “Drivers build relationships with participants and help ensure their well-being by checking in regularly and seek help if needed.”
