Levy supports Sandusky County seniors

Sandusky County seniors will benefit from improved and continued senior services should county voters approve a replacement levy this fall. The levy will be on the Nov. 4, 2025, Sandusky County Election ballot.

If passed, the 1-mill renewal plus .25-mil increase will generate $2 million annually to support Sandusky County Senior Services over the course of the next five years. This amounts to $34 per year for each $100,000 of the county auditor’s appraised home value, or, less than $3 per month to fund county senior programs.

Over the past five years, levy funding has supported multiple initiatives to help seniors, including expanding the county’s Meals on Wheels service and the Senior Helping Hands program, which assists seniors with health and safety related home repairs.

“Our county’s senior population continues to grow, so it is important that we continue to fund services that support senior needs,” said Citizens for the Senior Levy Campaign Secretary Robin Richter.

Sandusky County’s senior population is expected to reach 30 percent of the entire county within the next five years. Funding from the levy will annually support:

•    Services for 900 seniors
•    Meals on Wheels for more than 400 homebound seniors
•    80,000 nutritious meals
•    6,000 rides and/or transportation services
•    Minor health and safety-related home repairs
•    Case management for homebound seniors
•    Replacement of meal delivery trucks
•    Wellness, education, exercise and hundreds of other activities
•    Senior center facility improvements

“This levy helps seniors who rely on services for nutrition, wellness, transportation, and quality of life,” Richter said. “Likewise, supporting our seniors through levy funding helps friends and family members who know that their loved ones are cared for and have services that they need.”
