Head Start now enrolling for 2026-2027 school year

Great Lakes Community Action Partnership (GLCAP) is now enrolling children for its Head Start preschool programs for the 2026-2027 school year. Classes begin Aug. 24.

Head Start offers free, full-day preschool for eligible children ages 3-5. GLCAP operates early childhood centers throughout Lucas, Ottawa, Sandusky, Seneca, and Wood counties, with additional Head Start classrooms available through childcare partners across the agency's service area.

Children enrolled in Head Start receive nutritious meals and snacks each day, along with medical, dental, vision, and mental health screenings. Families also have opportunities to participate in engagement activities and access additional support services. Children of all abilities are welcome, and accommodations are available at every center.

"Head Start provides children with the tools and experiences they need to succeed," GLCAP Child Development Director Jacquie Wells said. "Throughout the school year, our staff focuses on helping every child learn, grow, and build the skills necessary for a successful transition to kindergarten."

Families may qualify for Head Start if their household income meets federal eligibility guidelines (e.g., $33,000 annually for a family of four). Children in foster care, those experiencing homelessness, and children whose families receive SNAP or certain other public assistance benefits may also qualify. Parents and caregivers are encouraged to contact GLCAP to learn more about eligibility.
