Community Advocate Sonny Workman calls Clyde Senior Center a ‘Treasure’ for the community
Workman films an interview with Clyde Senior Site Supervisor Donna Key as she shares information about upcoming events and activities available to local seniors.
When local community advocate Sonny Workman recently visited the GLCAP Clyde Senior Center, he discovered something he believes more people in Sandusky County should know about.
Known throughout the area as Sonny in the 419 and Mailman Sonny, Workman has built a reputation for celebrating the people, businesses and organizations that make the community special. His latest stop shined a spotlight on the GLCAP Clyde Senior Center.
Workman's connection to the Clyde Senior Center is personal. His parents, both approaching 86 years old, are participants at the center.
"My parents do not live there," Workman explained. "Fortunately, at 86 soon, they both still live at their own home in Clyde, but they do like to visit here and there at the Clyde Senior Center."
Following a recent visit to the center with his wife, Denise, Workman was touched by the warmth, camaraderie and genuine connections he observed among those in attendance.
"Denise and I recently stopped by the Clyde Senior Center, and we walked out absolutely thrilled by what a treasure this place is for our community," Workman said. "From Monday through Thursday, our local seniors have an amazing space to get out of the house, share a fantastic meal, and enjoy genuine fellowship."

He said what stood out most was the joy he saw on the faces of those attending.
"Seeing the smiles on everyone's faces and feeling their enthusiasm first-hand was incredible," he said. "They truly love it there, and the positive energy is contagious."
The GLCAP Clyde Senior Center gives older adults a place to gather, share healthy meals and build lasting connections through engaging activities and fellowship. Located next door is Laurelhurst, an affordable independent-living apartment community for seniors, allowing many residents convenient access to the center's meals, activities and opportunities for social connection.
Workman hopes others will take the time to experience that spirit for themselves.
"If you haven't checked out the Clyde Senior Center in Clyde, Ohio yet, I highly encourage you to stop in," he said. "It's a wonderful place filled with great people and plenty of smiles!"
Stories like Workman's serve as a reminder of the important role community spaces such as the GLCAP Clyde Senior Center play in the lives of older local adults.
