Utility credit offers added energy support

In addition to the Emergency Home Energy Assistance Program (EHEAP) that provides winter heating help for local households in need, residents can also seek assistance for an energy bill credit through Great Lakes Community Action Partnership (GLCAP).

The GLCAP Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) offers a one-time utility bill credit for eligible residents of Ottawa, Sandusky, Seneca and Wood counties. Residents of these counties who are facing a fuel shortage or utility disconnect may also apply through GLCAP for EHEAP assistance to reestablish service or replenish fuel. To be eligible for EHEAP and/or HEAP, residents must be at or below 175 percent of federal poverty guidelines (e.g. $22,330 annual income/household of one; $45,850 annual income/family of four) in order to be eligible for assistance.

The deadline to apply for EHEAP winter utility assistance is March 31, 2021. The non-emergency HEAP application deadline is May 31, 2021.

Scheduling and details on both HEAP and EHEAP are available online at www.glcap.org/winterheating or by calling 567-432-5046.
