Summer Crisis Program helps more than 350

The Great Lakes Community Action Partnership (formerly WSOS Community Action Commission ) Summer Crisis Program helped 386 residents this summer with cooling assistance.

The program served residents in Wood, Sandusky, Ottawa and Seneca counties by providing payment assistance for electric bills, central air conditioning repairs and other cooling needs. Services were available for low-income households with at least one household member age 60 years or older, or households with a member who required cooling due to a medical condition.

In 2017, the program assisted 329 residents.

Although the Summer Crisis Program has ended for 2018, GLCAP continues to provide help through the Percentage of Income Payment Plan (PIPP) Plus program, an income-based program that sets fixed utility payments for low-income utility customers based on their household income. GLCAP will also continue to take applications for the Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP), which provides a one-time winter energy payment for eligible utility customers to their main heating source.

Eligibility guidelines on PIPP Plus and HEAP are available at www.glcap.org. For more information, or to schedule an appointment or re-verify income for PIPP Plus, call the GLCAP scheduling hotline at 1-888-441-4327, or call WSOS at 419-334-8911.
