About Great Lakes

About

Great Lakes Community Action Partnership has been serving the northwest Ohio area for more than 50 years. We began in 1965 as WSOS Community Action Commission following the Economic Opportunity Act of 1964, which helped create hundreds of community action agencies throughout the United States. Our letters stood for the core counties we served — Wood, Sandusky, Ottawa, and Seneca. Since then, we have progressively expanded the scope of our services, adding other counties, states and even countries to our service area.

Our new name — Great Lakes Community Action Partnership — reflects not only the expansion of our service region, but also our approach. Our programs educate young children to prepare them for school, provide meals to homebound elderly, offer rides to those without transportation, and give housing to those without homes. We help low-income residents afford utility bills, homeowners make vital repairs, and communities better maintain infrastructure. Though our programs are successful because of our staff's dedication, they are also successful because of the partnerships we form with other organizations and people, whether these are businesses, local governments, schools, or the people whom we serve.

For the people and communities we serve, Great Lakes Community Action Partnership sees itself not as the cause of their successes, but as partners in their successes.

This belief is best stated in our mission:

We create partnerships and opportunities to help individuals, families and communities thrive.
